Question from James: I downloaded some files through Skype but I can’t find them anymore. Is there a folder where these files are stored?
Answer:
Thanks for your question James. Yes, there are specifc folders which contain the pictures and files you download through Skype. This post will guide you through locating these folders used by Skype.
If you are using an Android device, by default the downloaded pictures will be stored in your device’s Download folder. The Download folder in Android can be accessed via My Files > All Files > Device Storage > Download.
Downloaded files are stored in a seperate folder in the computer. Navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Skype\My Skype Received Files. The “username” is the login name you use to login to the computer.
Skype voicemails are stored in the following folder: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Skype\SkypeUserName\voicemail.
There is a way to change the default folder where the pictures and files are saved into. This can be done by following these steps:
If you are experiencing issues with your Windows system due to the Crowdstrike update, here's…

seems in skype ver 8 onwards the ability to change default download folder is removed... do you have a new method to change this variable please?
Hello, the default download folder is automatically set to Downloads.
You can try the following method for changing the download folder for new versions of Skype (as suggested by Microsoft):
1. Open Settings app. Go to Start menu and click Settings icon. Settings App can be launched using Windows icon + I (this is the keyboard shortcut).
2. In the Settings app, click the first option labelled System (Display , Notifications, Apps, Power ).
3. On the left side, click on Storage.
4. Scroll down to see Save locations section. Here you can view the default location for new apps, documents, pictures, and music.
5. To change the default install driver of application, under New apps will save to, click the drop-down and then select a drive.

Solution found on how How do I delete unwanted pictures in my gallery.
open windows explorer and go to view tab. make sure that the hidden items is checked in the show/hide section.
then go to:
C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Local\Packages\
Pictures are store in different folder depend on who sent them to you or you posted.
So do a jpg search (most pictures are jpg, gif, png). find the one you want and delete.
Hopefully the skype developers will finally listen to use and add in that feature so we can easily remove unwanted pictures without having to go thru a hassle to do it. Not cool microsoft.
Microsoft should make a separate hidden directory for each downloaded file (of course hidden and with admin rights necessary to open with a special Microsoft tool only) and ignore the settings of the system (like browser settings including MS Edge).
