If your computer came with Windows 10 pre-installed, you are not likely to know your Windows 10 product key. Knowing the product key may become necessary if you are going to reinstall Windows 10 due to various reasons, including replacing the hard drive, recovering after a virus, etc. This article will show you how to quickly find Windows 10 product key using 2 simple steps.
Step 1: Start the Command Prompt or Power Shell
There are two ways of starting the Command Prompt or Power Shell. The easiest way is to press the Windows key + x and then selecting Command Prompt. Some Windows 10 system may list it as Power Shell. Select either one but be sure to run it as Administrator. Another way of doing this is simply by right clicking on Windows icon and selecting either Command Prompt or Power Shell.
Step 2: Enter the Code for Product Key
Once you have the Command Prompt or Power Shell open, copy the code below and press Ctrl+V to paste. Hit Enter and you should have the Windows 10 product key displayed.
For Command Prompt, copy and paste the following:
wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey
For Power Shell, copy and paste the following:
powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"
If your computer doesn’t display the product key using the above method, you can download a third party software such as Belarc Advisor. Simply install the software and run it to find your product key.
