Toshiba Thrive 10.1″ Tablet (PDA01U-00101F) Review

Speed: Features a dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core mobile processor which provides speeds upto 1 GHz x 2.  The speed is decent for a Tablet.

Operating System: Runs on beautiful Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system. Android 3.1 has enhanced user interface refinements, more support for connectivity for USB accessories, expanded Recent Apps list, resizeable home screen widgets, support for external keyboards and pointing devices, robust Wi-Fi networking, and much more. Android lovers will enjoy this new operating system.

Storage: Comes in 8, 16 or 32 GB models. Storage is expandable with a SD and MMC card slot.

Memory: Has 1GB DDR2 RAM.  Good enough for light mobile Tablet computing.

Display: 10.1″ Wide HD Touch Screen size featuring 1280 x 800 pixels screen resolution. Very vibrant display featuring Toshiba’s adaptive display technology. The Adaptive Display upgrades regular videos to near HD quality. LED Backlit display preserves battery life.

Optical Drive: No CD or DVD reader. Has mini USB ports to connect external devices.

Graphics: Features integrated NVIDIA GeForce graphics chip. Shared video memory. Allows images and videos to be viewed in vivid details.

Wireless: Features integrated 802.11 b/g/n adapter.  802.11N offers stronger signal reception. Bluetooth 3.0 and HS capable. Would be good if it had wired networking ability.

Cameras and Multimedia: Has built in Front 2MP and Rear 5 MP HD webcams. Rear camera can record videos up to 720p resolution. HDMI connection allows connecting the tablet to HDTV. Has built in microphone. Capable of face to face video chat.

Battery: Estimated battery life provides 7-8 hours of usage. Battery life can be reduced by viewing HD videos, playing games and surfing.

Overall Rating: Very nice tablet from a company well known in the computer world. This feature loaded lightweight 725 grams android powered device will make mobile computing fun and productive. Backplates can be changed to different colors.
